Best Places to Get a Burger in Minnesota

Minnesota is a really big place, but even in a state as big and varied as this one, there can only be a few places you can call “the best.” Businesses, parks, even people compete all the time to find out once and for all what “the best” really is, often settling for only one year at a time. However, when it comes to the food you eat, making sure you get the best of whatever you’re jonesing for is vital. If you’re looking for a darn good hamburger, then hopefully this list can help you find the best burger place in Minnesota.

The Nook

It almost feels like a disservice putting this up at the top of the list, but I’m certain the fans of this place would be more than happy to tell us to put The Nook at the top of the list if we hadn’t. The Nook is a St. Paul burger place with a laser-guided approach to burgers. The burgers are big and flavorful, and the place is always packed to the gills with people who know it. One you get to the cashier, make sure you ask for something fun, like the Juicy Lucy or the Paul Molitor. You can get to The Nook by going to 492 Hamline Ave S., St. Paul.

Burger Jones

And on the other side of the Mississippi River, there’s another great burger place worth attention. However, like so many good things, news of how good it is travels fast. Burger Jones is almost like an upscale version of the classic burger and fry joint, with loads of bar seating and plenty of tables. Despite all the space inside, it seems like you’ll always have to contend with the die-hards who love this place just as much as we do. Definitely check out pictures of their burgers, because the portion size has to be seen to be believed (is that a whole half of an avocado?). You’ll find Burger Jones at 3200 W Lake St, Minneapolis in the Calhoun Village Shopping Center.

Check Out These Spots for the Best Breweries in Minnesota

Minnesota is a fine place to be, whether you’re visiting or a resident. However, it’s good to step away from the ordinary and expected now and then. Take beer, for instance. Why enjoy it in a can or bottle when you can march to the doorsteps of the men and women who make it and order a glass fresh from the barrels. If this sounds at all fun, then a visit to the best breweries in Minnesota might be the right kind of getaway for you. And if you’re more into liquor, check out our favorite Minnesota Distilleries

Bent Paddle Brewing Company

Bent Paddle sits near the very tip of Lake Superior, in Duluth, in a new main building, recently opened for the public. Here they produce pilsners and ales, along with some of their other offerings. The new building is a sight to see, and if you’re so inclined, the new taproom is open to outside food. There are even nearby businesses that deliver to the taproom, so you can sit down for a meal with a fresh beer, providing the most authentic beer-drinking experience you could have at a brewery.

You can find Bent Paddle at 1832 W. Michigan St., on the first floor.

Castle Danger Brewery

Also bordering Lake Superior is Castle Danger Brewery, which certainly steps away from the crowd, as the only brewery for miles around. However, not having nearby competition doesn’t mean this brewery is soft: the beers here are ales all over the color spectrum, and you can tell they’re ready for company by the giant table stretching from one end of the room to the other. Top this off with root beer for the kids and a stunning lakeside view, and you have a fine afternoon or evening to enjoy here.

Castle Danger Brewery can be found at 17 7th St, in Two Harbors.

Hoops Brewing Company

There’s something to be said about a brewery that shows off its brewing hardware glowing under green lights, visible from the bar in the taproom. Hoops Brewing Company takes the standard brewery experience and lets you admire it while you sit down and drink the very beers brewing past a pane of glass. Just to note, Hoops doesn’t serve flights, but they do sell “sample” sizes that you can gather up and arrange as a flight, if you’re dead set on one.

Hoops is located at 325 S. Lake Ave, in beautiful Duluth.

Visit the Best Distilleries in Minnesota

Alcohol has been Man’s friend (and occasional enemy) since it was first discovered by accident. Now, many years later, it is no accident that the art of cultivating alcohol has spread all across the world. Minnesota, our little corner of the world, just so happens to have some fantastic distilleries, where anyone can go out and taste the very best liquors you’ll find in this great state.

J. Carver Distillery

You know someone has nothing to hide when the front of their house is clear glass, and it’s clear that J. Carver Distillery has no reason to hide its fine alcohols with a front like that. The bold exterior leads to a warm interior, much like a good whiskey, and inside is wood accents and seating galore, among beautiful stills and an attractive gift shop. You can find J. Carver Distillery at 1320 Mill Ln. in lovely Waconia.

Loon Liquors Distillery

Loon does not have quite the atmosphere one might expect from a distillery, with rugged wooden picnic bench-style seating and candle lighting on the tables. It feels more like a craftsman’s shop than a distillery, but that actually works in its favor. Overall the warm tones give the impression of being immersed in the mind of the distillery’s owners, while being surrounded either by drinks in the tasting room, or by bottles of fresh liquor and other gifts elsewhere in here. Loon Liquor Distillery is at 1325 Armstrong Rd. #165, in Northfield.

Du Nord Craft Spirits

Du Nord is a place that does what it does, and does it well. The distillery is open for touring, but perhaps the most interesting part of the trip is the cocktail room. The menu is limited and mixed drinks will only include a handful of spirits, but the staff is attentive and serve a fine cocktail to boot. Overall, the experience is such a relaxed one that you could imagine making a visit here into part of one’s weekly routine. You’ll find Du Nord at 2610 E 32nd St, in good ol’ Minneapolis.

Speaking of which, if you’re doing a distillery trip and want to show your appreciation for Minnesota and the other Great Lakes states, come check out our Minnesota Driving Collection, on sale now!
